Last weekend Feyenoord gained their first league win of the campaign in Deventer which was followed by Europa League success against Standard Liege on Thursday. The confidence finally seems to be back in Rotterdam and they began brightly against Groningen. Jordy Clasie fired over the bar with the goal gaping before Colin Kazim-Richards opened the scoring on 24 minutes with a low strike into the bottom corner after playing a one-two with Lex Immers.
Groningen were on the back foot for the whole first half, and ten minutes into the second they were reduced to ten men with Johan Kappelhof receiving his second yellow card for a foul on the impressive Elvis Manu. Two minutes after the red Feyenoord doubled their lead with Lex Immers found unmarked in the box by Luke Wilkshire and the midfielder made no mistake with his close range header.
Jean Paul Boetius added a third with six minutes to go, nodding in after Sergio Padt had denied Mitchell te Vrede’s header. On 89 minutes Feyenoord added the fourth with Immers clipping the ball to the back post for Te Vrede to simply head into the net.
Feyenoord move up to 10th with the win, while Groningen are one place ahead in ninth.
