Coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst made one change from the side that drew 1-1 with Ajax two weeks ago as Tonny Vilhena dropped to the bench, to be replaced by Simon Gustafson. The change proved to be a masterstroke as the young Swede opened the scoring on seven minutes with an excellent side foot finish from Eljero Elia’s cross.
On 26 minutes it was 2-0 with Gustafson once again the scorer, with the midfielder slotting in after Joel Drommel parried Michiel Kramer’s effort into his path.
Feyenoord’s complete domination continued into the second half with Kramer heading in a Dirk Kuyt cross on 46 minutes, and soon after Karim El Ahmadi netted from close range to make it 4-0.
Things went from bad to worse for Twente as substitute Tim Holscher was shown a straight red card a minute after entering the field for a rash challenge on Rick Karsdorp. Feyenoord could have added several more goals, but they had to settle for just a fifth as Bilal Basacikoglu scored in injury time.
Feyenoord now leap above PSV into second place, while Twente sit 15th.
A great win today! need to rack up the points vs the lesser teams.
