Feyenoord have reclaimed third spot from AZ Alkmaar after a 3-0 victory over VVV Venlo.

AZ’s draw with De Graafschap on Saturday evening opened up the opportunity for Feyenoord to take third spot with a win against VVV.

After 24 minutes, Feyenoord took the lead thanks to a Sam Larsson strike from just outside the box that took a deflection before finding the bottom corner.

Peniel Mlapa almost equalised for the visitors before the break but he was denied by a Kenneth Vermeer reflex save.

VVV went looking for an equaliser in the second half and Patrick Joosten caused the visitors plenty of problems. However, a goal for the hosts never came and in the 72nd minute, Nicolai Jorgensen hammered a low strike past Lars Unnerstall to make it 2-0.

In the final seconds, Tyrell Malacia brilliantly beat two defenders before hammering past Unnerstall from a tight angle to add Feyenoord’s third goal.

Feyenoord rise back above AZ into the automatic Europa League spot with five games remaining. VVV are 13th.
