Feyenoord U19’s have been beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in their opening UEFA Youth League match.

Feyenoord’s starting line-up included 16-year-old sensation Cheick Toure, who made his Eredivisie debut earlier this season.

However, despite Toure’s efforts, the Rotterdammers were second best from the start against their English opponents, who eventually took the lead on 26 minutes through Rabbi Matondo.

Manchester City pressed for a second and goalkeeper Ramon Ten Hove had to make several good saves to keep his side in it. On 70 minutes, the Feyenoord stopper was finally beaten with Edward Francis finding the net from a free kick which took a heavy deflection.

Feyenoord could not mount a comeback as Manchester City comfortably saw out the rest of the match. It’s a disappointing beginning to the tournament for Feyenoord who slip to the bottom of the table. Napoli defeat Shakhtar Donetsk in the group’s other game.
