According to De Telegraaf, Feyenoord have given up on signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel after he suffered a head injury.

The striker was heavily linked with a move to Rotterdam last week with Feyenoord in negotiations with Basel.

However, Van Wolfswinkel suffered serious concussion after a clash with an opponent in Basel’s defeat against LASK Linz in the Champions League last week. The 30-year-old will now be out for weeks and Feyenoord have decided to move on to other targets.

Feyenoord are also looking to sign a new centre-back to replace Jan-Arie van der Heijden, who wants to leave the club. George Johnston signed from Liverpool last week, but Jaap Stam is unsure of the Scottish youngster’s qualities.
