Feyenoord have confirmed the signing of Utrecht midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on a four-year deal.

The Eredivisie champions have been itching to sign the 20-year-old since the end of last season, and had two bids rejected before they finally got their man for a fee of €4 million.

The Moroccan midfielder passed his medical on Friday morning and afterwards put pen to paper on his contract until 2021.

Feyenoord director Martin van Geel told the club’s website, “Sofyan is a very talented player, with great physical qualities alongside his footballing ones. That among other things is why we feel he is a player who fits Feyenoord. We are certain that he adds to our squad and that he can improve hugely in the future.”

Amrabat made his breakthrough last season, playing in 31 matches as Utrecht finished fourth and qualified for the Europa league through the play-offs. Ajax were also interested in the midfielder, but he has chosen to join Feyenoord and will wear the 21 shirt.
