Feyenoord has moved three points clear in third spot after a 2-0 victory at Heracles Almelo.

Feyenoord had to do without Robin van Persie in Almelo with the striker suffering from muscle issues. It seemed to effect Feyenoord, who were second best at the start of the game. Kristoffer Peterson hit the post for the hosts while Deroy Duarte also missed a big chance in a goalless first-half.

Just before the hour mark, Feyenoord opened the scoring with Nicolai Jorgensen heading past Janis Blaswich. A few minutes later, Jens Toornstra doubled the lead from a Calvin Verdonk cross.

The two quick goals broke the resistance from Heracles, who barely threated for the rest of the match, while Steven Berghuis struck the bar as Feyenoord came close to a third.

The win creates a gap for Feyenoord and the rest of the league, but they remain eight points behind second-placed Ajax. Heracles are fourth.
