Feyenoord are now only five points behind Ajax in second after a comfortable 4-1 victory over VVV Venlo.

The tie was originally set to be played last month but floodlight failure led to it being postponed until this evening. After the victory over PSV, Giovanni van Bronckhorst welcomed back Robin van Persie in place of the injured Nicolai Jorgensen.

Feyenoord were on top from the start and eventually took the lead in the 28th minute when Tonny Vilhena smashed the ball past Lars Unnerstall from a tight angle. Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Van Persie finished off a Steven Berghuis corner.

Ten minutes after the break, Sam Larsson raced down the left and after cutting inside, fired low into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.

Tino Susic pulled one back for VVV Venlo with a lovely strike from just outside the box but Larsson netted his second fifteen minutes from time to seal Feyenoord’s win.

The victory sees Feyenoord remain in third but the gap to Ajax is now only five points. VVV stay 8th.
