Berghuis spent last season on loan with the Eredivisie champions but has now returned on a permanent deal after Feyenoord agreed a €6.5 million fee with Watford.
Feyenoord director Martin van Geel told the club’s official website, “Steven has proven last season that he is a player with exceptional qualities. With his creativity, technique and scoring ability, he has been of great value to us.
“I am therefore pleased that we have reached agreement with Watford and Steven and that we have been able to capture him before the first official match of the season.”
Berghuis joined Watford from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2015, but he only made a handful of appearances before joining Feyenoord on loan. The 25-year-old made 25 league appearances, scoring seven goals and contributing five assists.
He becomes Feyenoord’s sixth summer signing after Sofyan Amrabat, Jean-Paul Boetius, Kevin Diks (loan), Ridgeciano Haps and Jeremiah St. Juste.
