The 34-year-old’s return to Rotterdam had been in the works for weeks but the deal was held up as Van Persie tried to dissolve his contract with Fenerbahce.

On Friday, Van Persie finally managed to break free of the Turkish club and will officially sign his contract with Feyenoord on Monday.

Van Persie made his debut for Feyenoord back in 2002 and went on to make 78 appearances for the club before joining Arsenal in 2004. He then had a spell with Manchester United before joining Fenerbahce in 2015.

The striker now returns to his boyhood club in order to add experience to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s line-up. However, he will not be available for Sunday’s clash with rivals Ajax.
