Feyenoord defeated Willem II 1-0 in Tilburg to record their first victory in the Eredivisie.

Feyenoord went into the clash on the book of their excellent 3-0 win at Hapoel Beer Sheva on Thursday. However, Jaap Stam’s side were still looking for their first league victory after three consecutive draws.

Feyenoord had the best chance of the first half after a swift attack but Orkun Kokcu’s effort crashed back off the bar. At the other end, Marios Vrousai headed a good chance wide.

Both sides went close after the break but the deadlock was eventually broken in the 74th minute from the penalty spot. Justin Ogenia brought down Luis Sinisterra and Berghuis slotted the spot kick into the net.

Paul Gladon came on for Willem II and he had the best chance to net an equaliser before the end but he saw his effort blocked by his own teammate.

The victory lifts Feyenoord up to 9th while Willem II are 4th.
