AZ Alkmaar has been knocked off the top spot in the Eredivisie after a 3-1 loss against Feyenoord.

AZ Alkmaar went into the game on the back of the 1-0 loss to Apollon Limassol, while Feyenoord drew 2-2 with Midtjylland.

Feyenoord went close early on with Sebastian Szymański hitting the post, but AZ took the lead in the 26th minute as Jens Odgaard scored at the far post.

The lead only lasted five minutes before Orkun Kokcu, who refused to wear the rainbow captains armband due to his faith, netted from the penalty spot. The foul was given after Santiago Giménez went over Sam Beukema’s leg.

AZ almost went into the break ahead but Jordy Clasie put a great chance wide of the net. In the second half, Jesper Karlsson had the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Out of nowhere, Szymański gave Feyenoord the lead with a strike that should have been saved but the ball found a way past Hobie Verhulst. Danilo then settled the game for Feyenoord in the 82nd minute with an excellent strike from distance.

AZ lose top spot and they are now fourth, while Feyenoord jumps up to third.
