Feyenoord have all but sealed fourth spot in the Eredivisie after a 3-1 victory over 5th placed Utrecht.

Within seven minutes Feyenoord were already ahead with Jens Toornstra latching onto a throw-in before setting up Nicolai Jorgensen to acrobatically fire in from close range. Shortly afterwards, Robin van Persie thought he had made it 2-0 but his goal was disallowed for offside.

Utrecht struggled to create chances but on the half-hour mark, they levelled in controversial circumstances. Zakaria Labyad’s cross was netted by Cyriel Dessers, but the striker was clearly offside.

Feyenoord recovered from the setback and regained their lead before the break with Van Persie chesting down Sven van Beek’s long ball before firing low into the bottom corner.

Both sides traded chances early in the second half before Sam Larsson sealed the victory with a header on 69 minutes.

The victory means Feyenoord are now eight points clear in fourth spot with three league games to go. Utrecht remain fifth.
