Feyenoord eased the pressure on Jaap Stam with a comfortable 5-1 victory over FC Twente in De Kuip.

On Thursday, Feyenoord were defeated 3-0 at home by AZ Alkmaar to continue their poor start to the league campaign. Stam made changes with Renato Tapia and Luciano Narsingh replaced by Leroy Fer and Sam Larsson.

Feyenoord made a strong start and after six minutes they had the lead when Steven Berghuis, who escaped red against AZ, finished well after being picked out by Rick Karsdorp.

However, the home side gifted Twente the equaliser when Aitor Cantalapiedra picked off a poor pass by Jens Toornstra, before combining with Haris Vuckic and then slotting past Kenneth Vermeer.

Three minutes after the equaliser, Feyenoord regained their lead as Larsson found the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Despite the lead, Feyenoord were dealt a blow in the first-half as Orkun Kokcu went off injured.

Ten minutes into the second half, Feyenoord made it 3-1 when Larsson’s terrific effort was deflected into the net by Peet Bijen. In the 67th minute, Luis Sinisterra made it 4-1 on the rebound after Tapia’s shot was parried.

Sinisterra then hit the bar before Larsson made it 5-1 just before the end.

Feyenoord climbs up to 6th after the win while Twente drop to 8th. On Thursday, Feyenoord host Porto in the Europa League.
