Feyenoord tried to sign Van Persie in the summer but couldn’t agree a deal with Fenerbahce. However, the Turkish club are reportedly looking to offload the veteran in January as they look to trim their wage bill.

Speaking to NOS, Martin van Geel does not rule out the signing of Van Persie and stated they are working on a deal, “There is very little in football excluded, so this is not.

“Van Persie is an incredible icon and it would be nice if he could close his career at Feyenoord, but I do not dare to say that, but we are still working in the background.”

Jordy Clasie has also been linked with a return to Rotterdam. Van Geel is open to the midfielder coming back, but not in the coming month, “Jordy is leased to Club Brugge and we have very good players in his position, but he is also in the back of his mind, he may come back again, because he is someone who absolutely has to go back to Feyenoord.”
