Feyenoord’s chances of progressing in the Europa League are all but over after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Rangers in De Kuip.

With an away tie against Porto to come on the final matchday, Feyenoord knew they needed to win against Rangers in order to keep up their faint hopes of progressing.

Dick Advocaat was without Kenneth Vermeer against his former side with Nick Marsman starting in goal. The stopper had a quiet first half as Feyenoord dominated.

The hosts went close through a Eric Botteghin header which was well saved by Allan McGregor before Leroy Fer put the rebound over. Luis Sinisterra also put a good chance over the bar.

In the 33rd minute, Feyenoord deservedly had the lead when Jens Toornstra’s strike took a deflection before nestling into the net. It could have been 2-0 before the break but Sinisterra missed a good chance.

Rangers barely threatened but in the 52nd minute they levelled when Alfredo Morelos slotted past Marsman. The Colombian striker then headed the visitors in front 13 minutes later.

Feyenoord were only behind for three minutes before Sinisterra netted the equaliser with a lovely solo run and finish.

There was to be no winning goal before the end which leaves Feyenoord needing to get a win in Portugal whilst hoping Rangers beat Young Boys.
