Babel, 31, recently entered the third and final year of his contract with Turkish giants Beşiktaş where he won the domestic league in his debut season. His form since then has been solid, scoring 5 goals in 11 games across all competitions with the Black Eagles this year.

His exploits in the Süper Lig earned him a recall to the Dutch national team after a prolonged absence, where he rewarded new manager Ronald Koeman’s faith by scoring in the UEFA Nations League.

Something of a journeyman, Babel has previously played in England, Germany, the UAE, and Spain, besides two spells in Turkey and two in his native Netherlands where his career began in the Dutch capital with Ajax.
