France Football announced the first 20 names in the running for the Ballon d’Or on Monday with five Dutchmen among the nominees.

France football took to Twitter on Monday to reveal the first 20 players in the running.

Donny van de Beek, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt have all been nominated after their excellent campaign’s with Ajax last season.

Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum were also revealed to be nominees after helping their club to Champions League success. Van Dijk will be among the favourites to pick up the award.

Ajax forward Dusan Tadic was also named in the first 20 names. Further players will be announced throughout the week.
