Substitute Toshio Lake had a dream debut for Fortuna Sittard as he provided a goal and an assist in a 2-1 victory over FC Twente.

Both sides had been active in the transfer market but especially FC Twente who brought in a host of new names including Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Robin Propper and Lars Unnerstall, who all started.

Twente began brightly and had chances through Van Wolfswinkel and Giovanni Troupee but they didn’t find the net. Van Wolfswinkel was also involved in an incident with Fortuna manager Sjors Ultee which started a commotion that led to several yellow cards being handed out.

In the 36th minute, Twente had the lead and it was Van Wolfswinkel who tapped in a Queensy Menig cross.

Fortuna improved after the break and eventually, they equalised in the 61st minute with substitute Toshio Lake setting up Mats Seuntjens to net. Lake, who joined the club from Feyenoord this summer, then netted a late winner to cap a dream debut.

Twente, who also brought on Michel Vlap and Michal Sadilek for their debuts, slump to a defeat on opening day, but Fortuna gets off to an excellent start.
