Fortuna Sittard have announced the signing of West Ham’s 18-year-old striker Veron Parkes on a three-year deal after he turned down a professional deal with the Hammers.

Heerenveen and Celtic were also interested in the forward, but Parkes “can’t wait to begin” with the Dutch side and sees the Eredivisie as the “perfect next step”. Parkes was prolific up top last season for West Ham’s youth team in Premier League 2.

Parkes is the fourth signing in a busy week in Sittard. Former Barcelona right-back Mike van Beijnen and ex-AZ attacking midfielder Mats Seuntjens have arrived from Turkish side Genclerbirligi, whilst Sebastian Polter, who played previously for QPR, will be the new starting striker after his release from Union Berlin.
