Feyenoord have fallen further behind the top two after a shock 2-0 defeat to Fortuna Sittard in Rotterdam.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst decided to hand 17-year-old midfielder Orkun Kokcu his first start for the club with Jens Toornstra out injured, while Robin van Persie was fit enough for the bench.

Feyenoord dominated the early stages with Sam Larsson seeing a shot blocked while Steven Berghuis tested goalkeeper Alexei Koselev.

The hosts failed to turn their possession into goals and as the game wore on Fortuna became more confident. Six minutes after the break the opening goal came for the visitors when Andrija Novakovich set up Lars Hutten to fire past Justin Bijlow.

Larsson and Berghuis went close as Feyenoord searched for an equaliser which should have came when Dylan Vente was presented with a great chance, but he fired straight at Koselev.

Van Persie’s introduction from the bench didn’t prove to be a turning point for Feyenoord and in the last minute, Fortuna settled the victory as Ahmed El Messaoudi found the bottom corner from just outside the box.

The loss means Feyenoord are now ten points off the top spot while Fortuna rise to 10th.
