Vitesse Arnhem began their Eredivisie campaign with a slender 1-0 victory over PEC Zwolle.

Vitesse went into the game on the back of their 2-1 victory over Dundalk in the Europa Conference League and with one eye on their clash with Anderlecht on Thursday.

Vitesse began brightly and they tested Kostas Lamprou twice before Nikolai Baden Frederiksen found the opener in the 20th minute with a strike from outside the box.

Shortly afterwards, Riechedly Bazoer had to leave the pitch after suffering an ankle injury. However, it didn’t affect Vitesse as PEC Zwolle failed to find the equaliser before the break despite efforts from Pelle Clement, Slobodan Tedic and Sam Kersten.

Gervane Kastaneer, Mustafa Saymak and Tedic also went close in the second half but Vitesse held on to start their league campaign with a victory.
