The midfielder sustained a minor injury in Barcelona’s win over Mallorca in their first game back after lockdown, but was fit enough for a place on the bench in their 2-0 victory over Leganes on Tuesday.
It appears that De Jong’s injury was more severe than first thought and the Netherlands international was not involved in training on Thursday. He has also not been named in the squad for the clash with Sevilla on Friday.
Barcelona have confirmed that De Jong misses out with a calf strain.
It is a crucial game for Barcelona, who may only be two points ahead of Real Madrid, should they win their game in hand against Valencia. Sevilla have been in good form and sit third in the table.
