Premier League strugglers Fulham have confirmed the permanent signing of Ryan Babel from Besiktas.

The 32-year-old’s deal with Besiktas was up in the summer and after negotiations on a new contract fell through a winter transfer was always on the cards.

At the weekend it was known that Babel would join Fulham and on Tuesday the club confirmed a deal until the end of the season.

Babel told the Fulham website, “My first impressions are good and I’m very excited.

“I definitely have faith that Fulham can stay up. That’s one of the reasons that I’m here, to try and help that to happen. I’m ready to go, I’m excited and I can’t wait.”

The Dutch international will play his second spell in England having spent three-and-a-half years at Liverpool, making 146 appearances for the club. He has also played for Ajax, Hoffenheim, Al-Ain, and Deportivo la Coruna, while also earning 54 caps for Netherlands.

Babel will be tasked with helping Fulham remain in the Premier League with the London-based club currently in the bottom three.
