Cody Gakpo scored a 90th minute equaliser as PSV Eindhoven struggled to a 2-2 draw at Sparta Rotterdam.

PSV went to Rotterdam looking to get their title challenge back on track after damaging defeats to both Utrecht and AZ Alkmaar. However, Mark van Bommel was once again without Donyell Malen and Steven Bergwijn, but Mohammed Ihattaren did start.

PSV had the first chance but Cody Gakpo just could not connect with a header from close range. Then in the sixth minute, Sparta hit the post through Ragner Ache.

In the 28th minute, the hosts did take the lead when Jeroen Zoet pushed Bryan Smeet’s shot into the path of Ache, who tapped in the opener.

PSV improved in the second half and in the 56th minute, Michel Sadilek equalised with a close range finish after Ritsu Doan was denied.

Two minutes later, Sparta regained their lead when Ache’s clever backheel set Mohamed Rayhi free in the box and the former PSV winger fired past Zoet from a tight angle.

Sparta then failed to kill the game and in the first minute of injury time, Gakpo equalised. Ihattaren nearly netted a last second winner but his strike flew just over the bar.

PSV now sit eight points behind Ajax while Sparta are ninth.
