Gonzalo Garcia Garcia has been confirmed as the new head coach of FC Twente.

Twente decided to part ways with Mario Pusic at the end of the season despite their promotion back to the Eredivisie.

Garcia Garcia was the assistant to Pusic but the Uruguayan has now been promoted to the head coach role on a one-year contract.

The 35-year-old told the club’s website, “When Ted van Leeuwen and the club management asked me for this position, that gave me confidence. At a club like FC Twente, the role of trainer is a big responsibility, I feel that too, but I am ready. Last season I got to know the club well; have been able to experience FC Twente from the inside on all fronts. It is a club with a lot of dynamics, just look at the supporters.”

Garcia Garcia spent several years playing in the Eredivisie with FC Groningen, Heracles Almelo, SC Heerenveen and VVV-Venlo.
