The friendly match between Germany and Netherlands which was due to take place in Hannover has been cancelled after safety concerns.

hdi arenThe HDI Arena which was hosting the game tonight was evacuated two hours before the game was due to kick-off after a suspicious package was found.

What the package was is still not known with various reports suggesting it was a suitcase. However days after the shocking terror attack’s in Paris no chances were taken, and police quickly evacuated the stadium and ushered fans away from the stadium.

Hannover’s mayor, Stefan Schostok has backed the reaction of the police and believes the fans safety is the most important factor.

He told SID: “Security is always first. It is a fear you always have. I trust the police that they have come to the right decision. If there is a dangerous situation, those steps must be taken.”
