The two sides met on Wednesday in the KNVB Cup with Go Ahead Eagles triumphing 2-0 to increase the pressure on Rutten who’s side went into the match sitting 15th in the league, and without a win in their last five league matches.
However Feyenoord began the match in determined fashion and took the lead on 28 minutes when Colin Kazim Richard’s pass to Lex Immers was turned into his own goal by Giliano Wijnaldum. Go Ahead Eagles nearly equalised just after the goal, but Wijnaldum saw his header cleared off the line by Luke Wilkshire.
It was 2-0 for the away side before the break as Jens Toornstra netted his first Feyenoord goal with a close range header from Elvis Manu’s lofted ball. Feyenoord continued to dominate in the second half and after 57 minutes Colin Kazim Richards found the bottom corner with an excellent strike to put the away side 3-0 up.
Jop van der Linden struck the post with a free kick for the home side, but Go Ahead could not find a way back into the game, and in the last minute Feyenoord added a fourth through substitute Mitchell te Vrede, who finished off a cross from the excellent Elvis Manu.
The win lifts Feyenoord up to 11th in the table, while Go Ahead Eagles slip to 16th.
