Netherland’s top two striker’s Klaas jan Huntelaar and Robin van Persie both enjoyed good starts to their competitive season’s.

huntelaar abHuntelaar lined up for Schalke in their Bundesliga opener against Rafael van der Vaart’s Hamburg, and it took less than five minutes for the striker to open his account.

Latching onto a through ball from Julien Draxler, Huntelaar excellently finished first time from outside the box to give his side an early lead. Hamburg equalised through a Van der Vaart penalty, and although they took the lead, Huntelaar netted his second of the match to level it up at 2-2.

His second was a free header from five yards, but there was to be no hat-trick for Huntelaar as the match finished 3-3, but the striker will be delighted to start the season with a brace.

Robin Van Persie also started the season with a brace, as Manchester United picked up the Community shield, beating Wigan 2-0 at Wembley stadium.

After only six minutes of the match, Van Persie netted his first of the season, with an excellent header from Patrice Evra’s curling cross.

After an hour, Van Persie added his second and the final goal of the match, with a shot on the turn that took a huge deflection off a Wigan defender before finding the net.

Its a good sign for the national team, who face Portugal in a friendly this week, that Netherland’s top two strikers have got off to such a good start to the season.
