PSV Eindhoven boss Roger Schmidt believes it is possible that Mario Gotze can makde his PSV Eindhoven debut this weekend.

Gotze surprisingly joined PSV Eindhoven on deadline day, and the club’s fans are waiting to get their first glimpse of the German in action.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday’s clash with PEC Zwolle, Schmidt hinted that Gotze could make his debut this weekend, “He is very fit and has worked hard. He missed training rhythm and has now gained it for two weeks. Ibrahim Sangaré and Adrian Fein also need match minutes, only training is not enough. Now we are going to decide who will play.”

Schmidt confirmed that Gotze will be playing in midfield and not up front, “Of course he is not 100 percent, but he thinks he can show the best of himself here. In his own place, not as a striker.”

Schmidt also said he has seen a change in Mo Ihattaren recently, “Mo was happy and motivated. His mindset is fine now. He had fun. The first weeks have been difficult for him, also given his performance. But he’s fighting for his position again.”

PSV have fierce competition in all places, but Schmidt thinks the players are motivated to win trophies, “I think the players were happy with the arrival of the newcomers. Of course there is now more competition, but the chance of winning prizes is also greater.”
