The 21-year-old missed out on promotion to the Eredivisie with NEC Nijmegen and has since been linked with a move to Manchester City and AZ Alkmaar.

However, it is Club Brugge who have won the race to sign the Netherlands U21 international. Groeneveld has signed a four-year contract with the Belgian league champions.

Groeneveld left PSV for NEC in 2016 and he quickly became a star in Nijmegen. This season he netted eleven goals and provided seventeen assists. He also made his debut for Jong Oranje, scoring twice in his opening two appearances.

The winger told the Club Brugge website, ‘I am really happy that I can come to Club. I had a lot of offers, but opted for Club Brugge. The history and results of the last season were already nice, but I have seen some matches and was really impressed by the fans. These are unique in Bruges.”
