de vrij asdRonald Koeman’s side started the game without top scorer Graziano Pelle, who is banned after his exploits in the defeat to Ajax, but Feyenoord started the game the better side.

After 15 minutes Terrence Kongolo clipped a ball forward for Ruben Schaken to prod the ball past Marco Bizot in the Groningen goal to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

Substitute Richairo Zivkovic nearly equalised a minute into the second half, but he could not beat Erwin Mulder from a few yards out. Feyenoord made their hosts pay, as two minutes later Tonny Vilhena’s half volley was nodded into the net by Stefan de Vrij.

Groningen could find no way back into the game, as Feyenoord held on for the win, which keeps their Champions League hopes alive. Feyenoord move back above PSV, and are four points behind Vitesse in second, while Groningen sit outside the European play-off places in 9th.
