camb manThe pitch at the Euroborg was in a horrible state, but it did not stop both teams from creating a number of chances in the first half. Marcel Ritzmaier, Martijn Barto and Ramon Leeuwin were all denied by Groningen keeper Marco Bizot, while at the other end Michael de Leeuw missed an open goal, before Tjarron Chery’s free kick shaved the post.

Five minutes into the second half Groningen had the lead with Chery poking the ball into the net from close range after a great run and cross by Filip Kostic.

The crossbar was then smacked twice by Elvis Manu, and Ritzmaier as Cambuur came agonizingly close to leveling the scores. However on 77 minutes a handball in the box saw Cambuur awarded a penalty, and Manu made no mistake to make it 1-1.

Neither side could find a winner, and they both settled for a point, which sees Groningen remain 9th, and Cambuur rise a place to 11th.
