Groningen were held to a 1-1 draw by Excelsior in the Euroborg thanks to a late strike by substitute Anouar Hadouir.

Mimoun Mahi was prevented from leaving Groningen on the final day of the transfer window and it was the winger who broke the deadlock in the game just after half time. Excelsior defender Milan Massop was penalised for a foul on Etienne Reijnen in the box and Mahi struck his ninth goal of the season from the penalty spot.
The goal woke Excelsior up and after Luigi Bruins and Hicham Faik went close, Anouar Hadouir netted the equaliser with a lovely dipping shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box.
The point means Groningen remain ninth while Excelsior are 14th.
