The home side came into the game as favourites and they started well, with Mimoun Mahi giving them the lead after only 13 minutes with a lovely strike into the top corner from a tight angle.
Go Ahead Eagles looked to play on the counter and on the half hour mark they equalised through former Groningen winger Jarchinio Antonia. Leon de Kogel sent Antonia free on the left and the attacker raced on goal before sending an unstoppable shot past Sergio Padt.
Groningen went looking for the winner in the second half but couldn’tĀ find a way past Go Ahead keeper Theo Zwarthoed, while at the other end Padt denied Antonia from scoring his second.
The point means Groningen are 10th going into the winter break while Go Ahead Eagles remain bottom.
