Twente failed to move two points behind leaders Ajax as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Groningen at the Euroborg.

Groningen took the lead after only five minutes as Krisztian Adorjan headed Hans Hateboer’s cross past Nick Marsman despite the best efforts of defender Andreas Bjelland, who tried to clear off the line.
Twente went searching for the equaliser, but goalkeeper Marco Bizot saved efforts from Dusan Tadic, Quincy Promes, and Youness Mokhtar as the hosts went into the break ahead.
Michael de Leeuw could have sealed the points for Groningen in the second half, but from two excellent Filip Kostic crosses,the striker could not beat Marsman.
With 13 minutes to go, Tadic ran onto a Luc Castaignos pass before firing past Bizot to level the scores at 1-1. Groningen could have won the game in the last minute, but Richairo Zivkovic just couldn’t control the ball from close range.
The point sees Twente now four points behind Ajax in second, while Groningen stay in ninth place.
