Groningen have moved into the Eredivisie top ten after a win over NEC Nijmegen at the Euroborg. That ended a ten-game e winless streak for Ernest Faber’s side.

NEC made the brighter start to the game with Mohamed Rayhi passing up a massive chance before Sergio Padt made a good save to deny Taiwo Awoniyi.

Out of nowhere, Groningen found themselves in front with Julian von Haacke losing the ball in the NEC half which led to Leandro Bacuna sending through Mimoun Mahi, who slotted into the net.

Groningen dominated after the break with Mahi seeing a goal disallowed for offside before both Simon Tibbling and Bryan Linssen went close. Eventually, on 67 minutes Bacuna settled the match with a nice strike from outside the box.

The win moves Groningen into tenth place and away from the relegation zone. NEC remain 13th and only three points above the drop zone.
