Roda JC have suffered their first defeat in eight matches as Groningen proved too strong in the Euroborg.

The visitors went into the game on the back of six straight draws and looking to extend their unbeaten run but they found themselves behind early on. After only ten minutes, Ruben Janssen picked out an unmarked Mimoun Mahi at the back post and the winger had an easy tap-in to put Groningen ahead.
Roda keeper Benjamin van Leer kept his side in the game with fine saves from Tom van Weert, Albert Rusnak and Hans Hateboer, but eventually the hosts did extend their lead. On 71 minutes, a corner caused mayhem in the Roda JC box and Alexander Sorloth hooked the ball into the net from close range.
Roda JC had no answer to the second goal and tasted defeat for the first time since October 1st. They remain 17th while Groningen are 9th.
