gron rodThe home side took the lead after only eight minutes, when Filip Kostic fired a volley past Filip Kurto in the Roda JC net from just inside the box.

Roda JC then began to dominate and deservedly equalised on 16 minutes, when Kees Luijckx took advantage of sloppy defending by the home side on a free kick.

Groningen keeper Marco Bizot then stopped Mitchell Donald from giving Roda the lead before the break as he brilliantly clawed the attackers effort away from a few yards out.

Eight minutes into the second half Groningen retook the lead with substitute Andraz Kirm scoring from close range after being set up by Kostic.

The lead lasted less than 10 minutes, with Roda JC awarded a penalty for a foul by Eric Botteghin on Frank Demouge, and Mark-Jan Fledderus netted from the spot.

Botteghin then thought he had won the game for Groningen, as the defender fired in following a corner to make it 3-2.

However in the 90th minute, Giliano Wijnaldum brought down Wiljan Pluim in the box, and Fledderus scored his 2nd penalty to hand his side a point.

A win would have lifted Groningen into 2nd, and they will be disappointed to lose the lead three times due to their own defensive mistakes. Roda JC put in another determined performance following their Dutch Cup win over PSV, and they remain 9th.
