Groningen hammered PEC Zwolle to keep their slim chances of reaching the European play-offs.

Ernest Faber openly criticised his players after the defeat to ADO Den Haag last weekend and it appeared to have an effect. Groningen took the lead in the opening quarter through Bryan Linssen, who slid the ball past Mickey van der Hart.

Four minutes later, Oussama Idrissi was sent clear on the left and his cross was tapped into the net by Mimoun Mahi to make it 2-0. Eight minutes before the break Linssen capped a perfect half for the hosts by heading in a corner.

Moments after the break, PEC Zwolle pulled one back through Nicolai Brock-Madsen and the striker nearly made it 3-2 but Sergio Padt was equal to the striker and the rebound from Queensy Menig.

Mahi eased the hosts nerves by netting his second before Ajdin Hrustic added a fifth just before the end with a lovely strike into the bottom corner. The win moves Groningen to tenth, while PEC Zwolle are 13th.
