The former PEC Zwolle and Nottingham Forest striker has signed a three-year contract at the Euroborg on Wednesday. He is reunited with former PEC Zwolle boss Ron Jans, who is a general manager with Groningen.
Veldwijk joins from KV Kortrijk, but is currently on loan with Norwegian side Aalesund FK and will not yet join up with his new club because their season is not yet over.
The 25-year-old joins Groningen as a potential replacement for top scorer Mimoun Mahi, who has been heavily linked with a move away.
The South African international started his career with Volendam, before spells with Utrecht, Dordrecht, Excelsior and Nottingham Forest. He scored 14 goals during a loan spell with PEC Zwolle in the 2014/15 season and then joined Kortrijk, where he has made nine league appearances, netting once.
