Jørgen Strand Larsen scored the only goal of the game as Groningen defeated Go Ahead Eagles 1-0 in Deventer.

Groningen went into the game with only two wins all season and head coach Danny Buijs decided to leave top scorer Cyril Ngonge on the bench in favour of Strand Larsen.

That decision paid off for Buijs with Strand Larsen netting the opening goal in the 50th minute after finishing a Laros Duarte free-kick. The goal was deserved with Groningen going closest in the first half through a Michael de Leeuw header that was well saved by Warner Hahn.

Martijn Berden came close to equalising for the hosts but in the 75th minute, Go Ahead Eagles were reduced to ten men. Inigo Cordoba saw his second yellow card. Things then went from bad to worse with Joris Kramer also seeing red just before the end of the game.

Groningen’s win puts them 14th in the table, while Go Ahead Eagles are 11th.
