Despite going down to ten men before the second-half, Fortuna Sittard held Groningen to a 0-0 draw.

The matches controversial moment took place just before the break when
referee Allard Lindhout produced a red-card for Jorrit Smeets after consulting with the video referee. Smeets dueled with Samir Memisevic and his foot connected with the defenders knee by accident, but the referee reduced the hosts to ten men.

The extra-man did not help Groningen seal a much-needed victory, though, as Fortuna Sittard held out rather comfortably in the second-half to take a point. The best chance of the game fell to the home side but Wessel Dammers hit the bar.

Fortuna Sittard head into the winter break sitting ninth while Groningen are 15th and level on points with PEC Zwolle a spot below them.
