Groningen director Hans Nijland is staying grounded amid rumours that Arjen Robben could return to the club next summer.

Robben recently announced that he is leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season sparking rumours that he could be heading back to the Eredivisie.

The winger came through at Groningen before joining PSV and both clubs are said to be possible destinations for the 34-year-old, who is a frequent visitor to the Euroborg.

Speaking to Het Dagblad van het Noorden, Groningen director Hans Nijland said on Robben, ‘It would be the ultimate dream if he ended his active career at FC Groningen.

“We are down-to-earth northerners and have to know our place. We are talking about one of the very best footballers in the world. I think it would be very nice if Arjen does something for the club in the future in whatever capacity. The contacts are good, but whether it ever becomes true? No idea. We’re waiting quietly. “
