Groningen technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus has confirmed that the club want to make Ko Itakura’s loan move from Manchester City permanent.

Fledderus was discussing the impact and uncertainty that the corona virus outbreak could have on this summer’s transfer window.

He told Voetbal International that he is “still unclear” on what effect it will have on their transfer budget this summer. Adding, “Are you talking about twenty percent, thirty percent less? It’s hard to say, but those percentages have been discussed, yes. You have to take those scenarios into account, because you have to make policy. On the other hand, it always remains: If four clubs start bidding against each other, the price will go up. Of course, that market operation will continue to exist.

“There is no handbook for transfers, it depends on so many things.

“We would like to take over Ko Itakura definitively from Manchester City, for example, but it will take a while before we get any clarification about that.”

Itakura has been with Groningen on loan since January 2019 with the 23-year-old making 23 appearances for the club.
