FC Groningen have completed the signing of goalkeeper Sergio Padt from Belgium club Gent. The 24 year old has signed a three year deal at Euroborg.

Padt was second choice at the Belgian club, and could have stayed at Gent, but wanted to move to a team where he could be number one. The Green and White Army were also looking for a new goalkeeper after selling Marco Bizot to Racing Genk.
This is what club’s technical manager Henk Veldmate had to say about former Ajax’s youth product,
“With Padt we immediately had a new first candidate on the top of our list. He is of the same generation as [Marco] Bizot and their careers running parallel to each other a bit. Padt has good length and appearance for a goalkeeper. With him you have a personality in the goal. We think that Padt is even further back with us and can develop through playing week in and week out.”
The Dutch youth international made 55 league appearances for his previous club.
