The 21-year-old arrived at the club in 2017 on a two-year loan deal but has struggled for game time, spending nearly as much time with Jong Groningen as with the first team.

Upon the midfielder’s departure, Groningen chief Ron Jans referenced this situation by saying that “It is better for Antuna to play football again”.

Though the loan spell may not have been as successful as intended, Antuna did play every match for the U21 Mexico side that came runners up in the 2018 World Cup

Antuna made a total of 22 appearances for Groningen.
