hoesen aHoesen joined Ajax from Fulham in 2012, but he failed to nail down a first team place at the Amsterdam Arena, and leaves having made 44 appearances for the club and scoring 13 times.

The 24-year-old will always be remembered at Ajax for scoring in the 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League last season, but he was then loaned out to Greek side PAOK at the end of the season.

With one year left on his contract, Ajax have allowed the striker to join Groningen, who are looking for a new forward after Richairo Zivkovic went the other way and signed for Ajax. The amount Groningen paid for Hoesen has not been disclosed.

Hoesen told the official Groningen site, “”I’m at an age that I have got to play often for me to develop. ”

“Speaking to the head coach Erwin van de Looi, I got a very good feeling about FC Groningen. They have plans for me, and that appeals to me. The first impression is that Groningen is a very good club and I’m looking forward to start here.”
