Groningen have signed experienced left-back Bart van Hintum on a two-year deal.

The 32-year-old’s contract with Heracles Almelo expired in the summer and he has now been snapped up in Groningen.

Van Hintum spent two years with Heracles, before that he represented Gaziantepspor, PEC Zwolle, FC Dordrecht and TOP Oss.

The left-back is the replacement for Tim Handwerker, who was loaned from Cologne last season. Groningen were hoping to make the deal permanent but the German decided to join Nurnberg instead.
