Ajax are still six points clear at the top of the Eredivisie after a comfortable 4-2 victory over Sparta Rotterdam.

After the win over Lille, Nicolas Tagliafico and Noussair Mazraoui had injuries with Perr Schuurs coming into the defence, with Daley Blind going to the left and Jurrien Timber to the right. Mohammed Kudus was fit enough to start in the midfield again. For Sparta, captain Adil Auassar was missing and Jeffrey Fortes came into the midfield.

Sparta started brightly but after 14 minutes, Ajax had the lead with Sebastien Haller finishing after being set-up by Dusan Tadic.

Tadic thought he had made it 2-0 but VAR spotted an offside and the goal was chalked off. In the 38th minute, it was 2-0 as Haller found the net with a header from close range. Just before the break, Schuurs found the bottom corner with a free-kick to make it 3-0 for the hosts.

Kudus added a fourth for Ajax before substitute Danzall Gravenberch pulled one back for the visitors. It was a special moment for the forward, who was playing on the same pitch as his brother Ryan for the first time.

Ajax made a number of substitutions with Oussama Idrissi coming on for his league debut for the club while Brian Brobbey got more game time. However, Ajax did not get another goal before the end, while Gravenberch got another for Sparta in injury time to make it 4-2.

Ajax remains six points ahead of PSV and has a game in hand. Sparta are down in 12th.
